| K8YRZ | James Thielen | Grandfather. Passed before I even knew what amateur radio was. Passed away in the mid-1980s. My dad dug up a pair of CW keys (straight keys with buzzers for learning) that were his, very old, and really neat. Made by Signal Electric MFG. Co. in Memominee, MI. R-68 Code Practice Set it looks like judging from this link. My dad also told me about boxes of QSL cards, but these are lost to history. |

These are some pictures of my home-made CW "key" (paddle). Previously this was nothing more than an automotive-grade dual-position, auto-return to center, switch (from Radio Shack) in a Radio Shack project box. I hooked this up to my Icom IC-7000 and used it's internal electronic keyer. In March 2011 I added some "smarts" to the key by embedding a TiCK-2 chip. (3/27/2011)
